Research Fields

Focusing on   industrial biotechnology, our group is interested in the new technology and   theory in the fields of biocatalysis and biorefinery. The main research scope   includes:

(1) Breeding   and modification of industrial microorganisms: high-throughput screening strategy   used in wild-type strains, genome shuffling technology for breeding excellent   strains, and strain construction by genetic engineering strategy based on the   principles of  metabolic engineering and enzymatic catalysis.

 (2)   Cell and enzyme immobilization: developing magnetic immobilized enzymes,   enzymes with reversible solubility and carrier free cross-linked enzyme   aggregates to suit the heterogeneous and non-aqueous reaction systems,   adsorption and fermentation techniques of living cells on various carrier   materials, and construction of corresponding reactors.

(3)   Biorefinery of bio-based chemicals and fragrance ingredients: fermentative production   of bulk chemicals (succinic acid) with renewable resources such as straw,   distillers’ grains and bagasse; also, processing methods of   raw materials, mechanisms of simultaneous saccharification & fermentation   and separate hydrolysis & fermentation techniques, products extraction,   and the bottleneck of the industrialization process are also studied.
