Research Fields

Our   group has been engaged in industrial microbial breeding, systems metabolic   engineering and biocatalysis/biotransformation. The main research fields are   as follows,

(1)   Systems metabolic engineering is carried out based on the technologies of   system biology and synthetic biology. The biosynthesis of active products and   the mechanism of metabolic regulation are analyzed for the native microbe. If   this microorganism is suitable for production, metabolic engineering   technologies will be used to reform them, so as to efficiently synthesize   biochemicals. If not, engineering bacteria such as Escherichia coli or   Saccharomyces cerevisiae are constructed through reconstruction of   metabolic pathway to make efficient synthesis of bioactive components, such   as β-carotenoid and lycopene.

  (2) With   the help of gene mining and directed evolution technologies, we want to   screen and obtain enzyme genes with high catalytic activity and other   excellent properties. The highly efficient biocatalysts are prepared by   heterologous expression in the model microorganism, and the efficient   transformation and synthesis of biochemicals, including chiral amino acids, functional   peptides, antiviral nucleoside (acid) drugs, and oligosaccharides   are carried out using the biocatalysts.
